Inside Jobs

We were promised snow and strong winds for Saturday.  By the time Saturday morning arrived they'd changed their minds and told us to stay home because we were in for a blizzard with a lot more snow than anticipated.  They weren't wrong.

On a clear day we can see forever out here.  This was the view outside, so we obviously spent the day inside where it was quite cozy.

The wind was blowing so hard it created drifts inside the garage!

I took the opportunity to make some ditty bags for the grands.  Fortunately I was up early Saturday.  The blizzard was scheduled to arrive at 9 a.m. and the garage was still relatively warm from Friday when the temperature hit 50 degrees.  I needed to spray the cloth with a sealer before printing so I backed out the buggy, sprayed my cloth and put it back in the garage before the blizzard arrived.

(Here's the full tute for making the ditty bags - they make great gifts!)

Talk about cabin fever.  Golly, as the day progressed, we weren't able to see much of what was going on outside.

Can you see my beloved washing machine through the snow?

Definitely mitten weather in Iowa, wouldn't you say?

I had baked these mittens a few days ago and found a way to display them in an antique mirror frame ( I just love whatever the heck veneer finish is on that frame )  A Christmas pick gave it a nice wintry Effect.

Since I didn't attach anything to the frame, I figure I can use this all year long, just change out the mittens for something seasonal.

I also prettied up this awesome antique candle holder I found at  Streck Sales (my favorite little store!)  It sure brightens up our little kitchen dining area.  (What do you think Joleen??)

That fairly well sums up how I spent my blizzard day.  How was your weekend?

  1. Wow, you really did get some snow! That wind was blowing really hard down in KC too but didn't have the snow with it. It looks like you really utilized in inside time. The ditty bags are very cute and I LOVE the mittens in the picture frame. That frame is awesome.
    Have a wonderful week.

  2. Love the little mittens in the frame! I won't tell you what the weather was here, but I turned on the air conditioning. Your creativity and inventiveness is forever inspiring!

  3. Our weekend weather was about the same as yours. The wind didn't blow quite that hard though. I spend the weekend crocheting caps to donate to the homeless shelter.

  4. Love your baked mittens hanging from the autique mirror! OH YEAH...we traveled to Charles City on Saturday to celebrate Christmas with mom and the roads were terrible!! It's so cold this morning and as soon as I get up the nerve, I'm going to go to a friend's house to clean and then I am coming back home and STAYING IN!!

  5. Oh my you really did get it bad there... we had rain up to 8:00 last night, and a nice flash freeze to go along with the snow that came with a vengence after all that rain. I think we escaped the worst of it though... so far so good. We may have a couple of inches out there but north of us is getting hit pretty hard.

Everything looks wonderful Coleen, makes you want to just grab a blankey and snuggle up in front of your beautiful fireplace.

Love the mittens in the frame... that is a keeper for sure.

    Stay warm and be safe.

    Hugs, Deb

  6. That is amazing--and you can keep it! Although I like the idea of just staying inside and being cozy. We've had nothing but a few flakes here on Long Island (actually, we have a lot of flakes on Long Island--of a different kind) but a lot of wind and rain. My sister in upstate New York got over 2 feet a while back. I'm not a big fan of winter. But I do love your decorations! That mitten display is adorable! I've never seen anything like it!

  7. PS--in case you're wondering, I hopped over here from Granny's Place!

  8. Girl you've been super busy! I just went over and read your tutorial for the ditty bags...cute,ingenious and personalized. I love these!
I've often wondered "how to..." cute, cute, cute!

  9. I LOVE those mittens! They are perfect in that frame!! That is just awesome!

I heard midwest had a blizzard! We got a dusting out of it here in TN... and definitely got the cold wind... it's aweful!!

    Everything looks great Coleen!

  10. Coleen,
I love what you have down to the candler holder.
It is always fun to see what you do with your "finds" in our store.
Merry Christmas to you and your family and a crafty New Year.

  11. It was quite a blizzard...a good excuse to hunker down and get cozy! Lovely holiday decor!

  12. I love the look of the snow in your kitchen windows, and the candle holdery is just lovely. Sweet little ditty bags, and the mittens on the screen are adorable! Looks like you know how to make the best of a 'blizzard' day!

    Happy Holidays!

Leave a note, I'd love to hear from you!
